Symptoms

While staging Windows (NT6.x) with Columbus you get the following error:
Windows installation cannot continue because a required driver could not be installed

Cause

If the drivers are configured in windowsPE configuration pass they are reflected for Windows PE to use. If they are configured within the offlineServicing pass the drivers are staged to the driver store on the Windows image.

Resolution

Within your INSERT.TXT of your driver job (or s_ADS job) change the section <windowsPE> to <offlineServicing> and Microsoft-Windows-PnpCustomizationsWinPE to Microsoft-Windows-PnpCustomizationsNonWinPE

<XML_TO_ADD>
  <offlineServicing> <- Change this section
    <component name="Microsoft-Windows-PnpCustomizationsNonWinPE" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" ...
      <DriverPaths>
        <PathAndCredentials wcm:action="add" wcm:keyValue="1">
          <Path>c:\drivers</Path>
        </PathAndCredentials>
      </DriverPaths>
    </component>
    <component name="Microsoft-Windows-PnpCustomizationsNonWinPE" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" ...
      <DriverPaths>
         <PathAndCredentials wcm:action="add" wcm:keyValue="1">
           <Path>c:\drivers</Path>
         </PathAndCredentials>
      </DriverPaths>
    </component>
  </offlineServicing> <- Change this section
</XML_TO_ADD>

The schedule a "Scan for OS changes" to read the changes into the database.
