Word 2016 has issues with opening or saving documents.
In some cases Word may even crash.


The update KB4011730 cause an issue with Word 2016 which prevents the user from opening or saving a word document.
This update is intended to close the security gap CVE-2018-0919.


Customers which are using UpdateManagement are advised to exclude the update KB4011730.
The update for PatchDeployment will be set to Legacy from our side.

If the update KB4011730 has already been deployed, you have to install the non security update KB4018295.
This update is available as a Columbus package which is attached to this article.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Download the package and extract it into your Software Depot from Columbus.
  2. Download the following source for the corresponding package:
    32-Bit: http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/B/8/9B829520-15DA-4F8D-A79A-A7D79C96C7A5/mso2016-kb4018295-fullfile-x86-glb.exe
    64-Bit: http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/8/8/188E5F6B-4B94-41FF-AD18-6A825C22F162/mso2016-kb4018295-fullfile-x64-glb.exe
  3. Place the file into the corresponding "Server" folder of the package.
  4. Start a scan of your Software Depot.
  5. The package is now ready for distribution.

The package contains a check if KB4011730 is installed.
If this is the case, then the installation will take place.
